Health and Hospitalisation Insurance
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I eligible for cover?
Provided you live or work outside of the country for which you
are a passport holder, you are eligible to join the Plan. Additionally,
in certain territories we are able to provide cover for local nationals.
Please contact Trafalgar International Limited for confirmation of
the countries acceptable to our Underwriters.
There is no upper age limit for joining the Plan.
Can my family members also be covered?
Yes. Your spouse or adult partner (whether or not of the same
sex) who is permanently living with you can be included as a dependant.
Also, unmarried children under the age of 21 years, either living
with you or in full time education.
Will I need to have a medical examination to join the Plan?
No. Nor do you have to give details of your past medical history.
Will I be covered for any illnesses or injuries I have had before
joining the Plan?
Cover for all pre-existing conditions is excluded during the first
two years of membership. After this period, should an eligible medical
condition recur, then future costs will be covered provided you have
not received treatment or advice for a continuous period of 2 years
since joining the Plan.
Which hospitals can I use?
We do not have a hospital beds directory. You are free to use
a hospital of your choice provided adequate and suitable treatment
can be obtained.
Am I covered if I travel away from my area of residence?
Yes. Whether you are travelling on holiday or business, you are
covered worldwide. Cover in the USA is restricted to Accident and
Emergency treatment only, unless you have selected the Area 3 premiums.
Can I seek treatment anywhere in the world?
Yes. However, if you are resident in Areas 1 or 2 and wish to
elect to have treatment in the USA, then you must select the USA Elective
Treatment Module.
In all cases where you choose to seek treatment in another country,
the costs of travelling to that country are not covered under the
Plan.
Am I covered for winter/water sports and hazardous pursuits?
Yes. The Plan will also provide for rescue services, from the
place of incident to hospital.
How quickly can I be covered?
As soon as we receive your completed Application Form (fax or
original) we can confirm immediate cover for 30 days, pending receipt
of the premium (plus original of fax, if applicable).
What happens if I change my mind and wish to cancel the policy?
Provided we receive your written instruction to cancel within
a period of 30 days from commencement date of the policy and you have
not submitted any claims, we will arrange cancellation and a full
refund of the premium.
How is the policy excess applied?
The policy excess is the amount for which you are responsible.
It is applied to each new medical condition and is deducted by the
Programme Managers Claims Department on settlement of the claim.
How do I know that I am covered before receiving treatment?
For planned admission to hospital, it is advisable to contact
the Programme Managers Claims Department to establish whether
treatment is covered under your policy. Settlement can then be made
directly to the hospital, which gives you the peace of mind of knowing
that all of the costs will be met.
In the event of an emergency, the Programme Managers Claims
Department should be contacted as soon as possible.
Please refer to Policy Wording for full definitions,
terms, conditions and exclusions.
Who are the insurers ?
Trafalgar use a number of health care programmes so that we can
select the best programme for the cover you require. A Programme Manager
manages each programme and arranges the insurance with underwriters
especially suited to the risk. These underwriters may vary from year
to year depending upon the trends of the insurance market and the
customer profile for the scheme. However, underwriters are selected
for their financial stability and their flexibility with claims as
well as competitive premium levels.
